Equipment

  • 1 Egg Ring thumbnail image of egg ring needed for gourmet burger idea

Ingredients

Gourmet Burger

  • 1 frozen hamburger patty
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp steak sauce (I like A1 sauce)
  • 2 slices of Gouda cheese
  • blue cheese crumbles (optional)
  • salt & pepper to taste

All the Rest

  • 1 Hamburger Bun (toasted)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp spicy mayo (I use Taco Bell Baja Sauce)
  • 3 dill pickle hamburger slices
  • shredded lettuce (I use Romaine)
  • petite diced tomatoes
  • blue cheese crumbles (optional)

Instructions

Cooking the Patty

  • Add olive oil to small skillet. Heat on high for 15 seconds. Using a paper towel, spread heated oil evenly on the pan. (Careful it is hot)
  • Reduce heat to low. Place frozen patty in pan. Cook for 5-6 minutes.
  • Flip patty in pan. Put half of the Worcestershire sauce on top of the patty. Cook for 5-6 minutes on low.
  • Flip patty in pan. Put remaining half of Worcestershire sauce on top of the patty. Cook for 5-6 minutes on low.
  • Flip patty in pan. Put Gouda cheese slices on top of patty. Add blue cheese crumbles if using. Cover skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melted. Remove skillet from heat.

Cooking the Egg

  • In a separate skillet, place egg ring in the center. Add 1/2 tsp of oil or butter inside the egg ring. Heat on Medium High for 1 minute. Crack egg into egg ring and cook until egg whites solidify. Remove from heat.

  • If you prefer "over-hard" eggs, flip egg ring in pan.

Assemble the Gourmet Burger

  • Toast your bun in the oven. This makes your burger special. Do not skip this step
  • Spread spicy mayo on inside halves of the bun. Add a touch of ketchup or mustard for extra flavor.
  • Put dill pickle slices on lower half of bun. Add half of your leafy greens.
  • Place burger on top.
  • Place egg on top of the burger.
  • Sprinkle chopped tomatoes on top of egg.
  • Apply rest of leafy greens on top. Put top half of bun on top.
  • Take a moment to admire your Gourmet Burger. Cut in half and serve.

Not-so Pro Tips 😀
  • Prep Work: Each flip of the patty requires 5-6 minutes of cook time. This is a perfect opportunity to prepare your toppings.
  • Messy Burger: Keep plenty of napkins ready. This is a delicious (and messy) burger.
  • Be Creative: Much like pizza, the topping choices are endless. Bacon-Yes. Mushrooms-Yes. Avocado-Yes, Pineapple-Yes,
  • Sides: It is best to eat this burger by itself. If you are still hungry, may I suggest making a second burger. (Just my opinion)

Origins of my Gourmet Burger Idea

How I came up with my Gourmet Burger Idea: After enduring a draining workday and a frustrating, construction-snarled commute, all I crave is the sanctuary of home to finally decompress. Famished to the point of being truly “hangry,” I somehow navigate past a gauntlet of eleven burger joints. Dragging myself upstairs and ditching the computer bag, a hopeful raid of the fridge yields nothing inspiring. But then, just then, a glimmer of hope from the freezer: a stash of frozen burger patties. In that moment, a new resolve is forged – this isn’t just about eating anymore; it’s about crafting the most satisfying, downright legendary burger imaginable.

Honestly, Mr. Ignus, I expected so much more. I was hoping for a true handmade gourmet burger idea. Instead, I got frozen patties straight from a box, processed cheese, and sauce squirted out of a bottle.
The only thing that seemed real was the egg. And while it was a decent egg… that’s not exactly what I came for. Disappointed doesn’t even cover it. Next time, skip the drama and just serve breakfast.

@BurgerFan43 UR right. This recipe screams CHEAP, not gourmet. But after too many late nights with BK, Wendy’s & White Castle… this is gourmet to me. 😅 Baby steps for me, my friend. #BurgerRedemption #FromFrozenWithLove

Are Frozen Beef Patties Any Good?

Okay, let’s be real for a second. Between work, trying to keep the house somewhat tidy, and just generally surviving the day, making my own burger patties from scratch? Yeah, that’s a hard pass for me. Honestly, on a good day, I pat myself on the back for managing to bypass all those tempting fast-food drive-thrus and actually cook something at home. So, please, cut me some slack when I admit my go-to for a quick burger night is a bag of frozen patties. And that brings me to my current obsession: finding the best frozen patty. I know, I know, it’s totally subjective, and I’ve definitely sampled my fair share from various grocery aisles. But after much deliberation (and many burgers!), I’ve landed on a winner: the Cattlemen’s Bacon & Cheddar Angus Patties from Aldi. Seriously, give them a try!

Disclaimer: My personal preference. Reviews range from “Amazingly Good” to “Total waste of money”.

Alternative to Frozen: Make Your Own Patties

If you’re on the hunt for a gourmet burger idea that truly stands out, look no further than the magic of homemade stuffed burger patties. There’s something deeply satisfying about getting your hands into a bowl of fresh ground beef—your favorite grade, of course—and mixing it with bold spices, savory ingredients, and secret flavor bombs like caramelized onions, shredded Gouda, or sun-dried tomatoes. Once everything is blended to perfection, break out your not-so-secret weapon: an inexpensive burger press that turns your seasoned mix into thick, juicy patties worthy of a five-star grill night. Whether you’re hosting a weekend cookout or just treating yourself on a random Tuesday, these burgers go way beyond basic—they’re your own personalized masterpieces. From the sizzle of the grill to the first delicious bite, you’ll be amazed at how a little creativity and a simple press can transform ground beef into something truly unforgettable.
